I did my first wi-fi play yesterday and I have not been won over.

From what I saw, whoever is leading after a lap proceeds to get an insurmountable lead thanks to how items work. First place gets a shell or banana, which blocks the red shell from the second place driver - in the rare case the second place drive gets a red shell. Meanwhile, the second place person is brutally raped by the assortment of items flying from the back of the pack. The resulting infighting means first place wins by half a lap.

If you couldn't tell, I spent most of my time racing in second place. Red shells were *very* rare. Even if I did get them, half the time I had to use them for defense since a fleet of shells were coming at me. Most of the time, I got second, third or forth. When I finally won, it was Moonview Highway - the course where cars block most items. Coincidence?

I've also developed a renewed hatred of Maple Treeway. First, I get item raped. Then, I only get mushrooms for the remaining two laps. Mushrooms on Maple Treeway = fall to your death. It was my only time placing last, and it was by a mile.

Finally, since when does "random" mean "WALUIGI STADIUM"? All but once, whenever a random choice was hit we got sent to that course of unmitigated pain. Needless to say, I lost a few hundred points racing on that course.

I'm still not happy with the items in this game. Whoever decided to add POW blocks and bob-ombs as items to this game should be executed. Bob-ombs NEVER work and have a nasty habit of bouncing back to hit you. POWs are absolutely brutal in tricky courses where it's easy to fall off a ledge - Bowser's Castle, I'm looking at you - especially when one is going for a star ranking. Having every little thing cause item loss was a lame idea as well. Considering the horrible onslaught one gets on the final lap, losing items to use as defense is brutal. Because there are 12 players on the course, it's way too common for lightning/blue shells to go off three or four times in a race apiece.

This would all be easier to overcome if I was good at this game. I am NOT good at this game.
